How do less office visits and virtual doctor’s appointments via your mobile device sound to you?

CRM giant, Salesforce, is pushing health care into the cloud. Salesforce announced its new Health Cloud service—an online portal for patients and health care providers to share patient records and to interact. The new service is a move toward what Salesforce coins, “the connected patient.”

Health Cloud provides one-to-one care via a Patient Profile. The profile is a centralized view of patient data from a variety of sources and includes information such as electronic medical records (EMRs), medical devices a patient may use, as well as health care wearables.

Through the Health Cloud service, providers can use the Today screen feature to organize and browse tasks associated with individual patients. Patients can be organized by specific criteria such as those with high blood pressure. Providers can set reminders for patient checkups and collaborate across the Health Cloud.

Providers also can monitor patients’ health progression with the Timeline feature. A Caregiver Map feature lists patients’ family relationships, providers and medical specialists.

A Private Communities feature lets both providers and patients securely collaborate to view care plans, get answers to questions and submit and fill out medical documents.

The new service integrates with Salesforce’s internal social networking tool, Salesforce Chatter, so that care providers can keep track of conversations about individual patients as part of a more collaborative experience across the health care network.

Health Cloud not only adheres to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliancy, but it has built-in tools for providers to ensure they meet the compliancy standard. These tools are in Salesforce Shield, a set of Salesforce1 Platform features that include Field Audit Trial, Platform Encryption, Data Archive and Event Monitoring.

“The era of precision health care is upon us,” said Joshua Newman, MD, Chief Medical Officer, GM, Salesforce Healthcare and Life Sciences. “Just like we use precision medicine to target more personalized treatments for cancer and other diseases, precision health care is enabling our customers to develop more meaningful, accurate and long-term relationships with patients. Health Cloud is a huge step forward in our industry’s transformation.”

Health Cloud is designed for health care providers and is built on Salesforce’s CRM platform. It was developed with Salesforce health and medical device partners including Accenture, MuleSoft, Persistent, Phillips and PWC.
